Vista residents can schedule free bulky item pickups through EDCO Disposal for items like furniture, appliances, and mattresses. Two free pickups per year are included in standard service. Additional pickups and special items like electronics and hazardous waste have separate disposal options.
EDCO Disposal offers Vista residents free curbside bulky item pickups as part of their regular service. Each residential account receives two free bulky item pickups per year. Acceptable items include furniture, mattresses, large appliances (washer, dryer, refrigerator with doors removed), carpeting, and other oversized items that do not fit in standard carts. To schedule a pickup, residents call EDCO at (760) 745-3203 or use the online scheduling tool. Items must be placed curbside by 6:00 AM on the scheduled pickup day. Additional bulk pickups beyond the two free ones are available for a fee. Electronic waste (TVs, computers, monitors) and hazardous materials (paint, batteries, chemicals, motor oil) are not accepted in bulky item pickups and must be taken to the EDCO Recycling & Transfer Station in Escondido or to a County household hazardous waste facility. The City of Vista also hosts periodic community cleanup events where residents can drop off bulky items, e-waste, and household hazardous waste at no charge. Construction and demolition debris requires a separate haul-away arrangement. Yard waste over 4 feet in length must be cut to fit in the green waste cart or bundled and tied for separate pickup.
Dumping bulky items on public property, streets, or vacant lots is illegal and subject to fines. Illegal dumping may result in citations starting at $250 and criminal penalties for repeat offenses. Items placed curbside outside scheduled pickup dates may result in a code enforcement notice. Report illegal dumping to the Sheriff at (760) 940-4551.
