EDCO Disposal provides weekly curbside collection of trash, recycling, and green waste for Vista residents. Collection occurs Monday through Friday. Carts must be curbside by 6:00 AM on the scheduled day with lids closed and handles facing the house. SB 1383 requires organic waste separation.
EDCO Disposal Corporation provides residential curbside waste collection in Vista under contract with the City. Each household receives a trash cart (gray or black), recycling cart (blue), and green waste cart (green). Collection occurs once per week on the resident's assigned day, Monday through Friday, with routes typically running between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Carts must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM with lids closed, handles facing the house, and arrows pointing toward the street. Under California SB 1383 (Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Reduction Act), all Vista residents must separate organic waste (food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings) from trash and place it in the green waste cart. Accepted recyclables in the blue cart include paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, metal cans, and plastics #1-5 and #7. Items that do not belong in recycling include plastic bags, Styrofoam, food-contaminated materials, and electronics. Holiday collection schedules shift by one day after major holidays including New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. EDCO provides a mobile app and online lookup tool for collection schedules. Contact EDCO at (760) 745-3203 for service questions.
Contaminated recycling carts may be tagged and left uncollected. Residents who repeatedly contaminate recycling may face additional charges from EDCO. Under SB 1383, jurisdictions that fail to achieve organic waste diversion targets face state fines, which may be passed to noncompliant residents in the future. Carts set out late or improperly placed may not be collected until the next scheduled pickup day.
