Carlsbad provides weekly residential trash, recycling, and organics collection. California SB 1383 requires participation in organics recycling. Bins must be returned within 24 hours after collection.
Carlsbad provides weekly residential collection of trash (black/gray bin), recyclables (blue bin), and organics/food scraps (green bin) through a city-contracted waste hauler. California SB 1383 (effective 2022) requires all California residents to separate organic waste (food scraps, food-soiled paper) into the green organics bin. Bins must be placed at the curb the evening before scheduled collection and returned within 24 hours after collection. Bulky item pickups (furniture, appliances) are available by scheduling with the waste hauler. Electronic waste (e-waste) and hazardous waste have separate disposal requirements.
Failure to participate in organics recycling (SB 1383) can result in administrative penalties for both residents and haulers. Bins left at curb beyond 24 hours are a code violation.
