Bulk waste disposal in El Cajon is provided through the city's waste hauler contract with EDCO Disposal Corporation. Residential customers may schedule up to two complimentary bulk item pickups per year by calling EDCO at 619-287-7555. Accepted bulk items include furniture, appliances (without refrigerant), mattresses, and large household items. Electronic waste (e-waste) must be taken to designated drop-off locations. Hazardous waste including paint, chemicals, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs must be taken to the San Diego County Household Hazardous Waste facility. EDCO operates a recycling center where residents can drop off additional items. Construction debris and demolition waste require separate disposal at Sycamore Landfill or other licensed facilities.
Illegal dumping of bulk items on streets, vacant lots, or public property is a misdemeanor. Improper disposal of hazardous materials is a violation of state and federal environmental law. Code Compliance addresses illegal dumping complaints.
