El Cajon requires paved driveways and off-street parking per ECMC Section 17.245. Off-street parking may not be within 10 feet of a public street, except authorized driveways at single-family homes. Minimum stall size is 8.5 by 18.5 feet.
ECMC Section 17.245 (Parking Standards) governs off-street parking requirements. Parking areas may not be situated within required front or exterior yards, and under no circumstance within 10 feet of a public street, with an exception for vehicles in authorized driveways at single-family residences. Outdoor uncovered parking stalls must be a minimum of 8.5 feet wide by 18.5 feet deep. All parking areas and driveways must be paved with a minimum of two inches of asphaltic concrete on a prepared base, unless an alternative surface is approved by the director of public works. Access to parking areas must be through paved driveways with entrances and exits approved by the director of public works.
Unpaved parking surfaces are code violations. Parking within required setbacks is a zoning violation. Non-compliant driveway installations require correction.
