El Cajon, CA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

070(B) bars parking any motorized recreational vehicle, trailer, semi-trailer, boat or boat trailer, whether or not attached to a tow vehicle, on any highway, street, alley, public way or public place in El Cajon. The only exceptions are a vehicle registered to an El Cajon address whose owner holds a valid city permit, a vehicle actively loading or unloading property, or a vehicle disabled to the point stopping is unavoidable. Subsection C lists the vehicle types the rule reaches by California Vehicle Code definition: camp trailers, fifth-wheel travel trailers, house cars, trailer coaches, mobilehomes, boats and boat trailers, trailers used to transport equipment, vehicles or animals, recreation vehicles under Health and Safety Code Section 18010, folding camper trailers, and semi-trailers.

Permits are issued under subsection D, free of charge, only to El Cajon residents whose RV, trailer or boat is registered to an El Cajon address. Each permit is good for a maximum of twenty-four consecutive hours, a resident can pull no more than three permits in any seventy-two-hour period, and no more than fifty-two permits total in a calendar year, so ongoing street storage of an RV or boat is not permitted even with the permit system. This section is separate from the driveway and private-property parking rules in the city's zoning code; it governs the public street and alley only.
