Unincorporated Salt Lake County residents get two on-call bulky waste pickups per calendar year through the Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District, plus an Area Cleanup delivered dumpster program each spring and fall. Bulky items must be scheduled in advance, placed at the curb by 7 AM, and limited to household items. Hazardous waste, tires, and construction debris are excluded.
The Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District provides two free on-call bulky waste pickups per calendar year for each residential account in unincorporated Salt Lake County. Residents must schedule pickups in advance by calling the District or booking online, typically with a lead time of 1 to 2 weeks depending on demand. Each pickup allows up to approximately 8 cubic yards of material, which must be stacked neatly at the curb by 7 AM on the scheduled day and cannot block sidewalks or travel lanes. Accepted bulky items include furniture such as couches, mattresses, and chairs; appliances with refrigerant doors removed or tagged showing refrigerant evacuation; small amounts of wood, metal, and yard debris; carpet and padding cut and rolled into manageable sections; and large toys. Excluded items include household hazardous waste such as paints, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, and batteries; tires; electronics containing CRT or LCD screens; construction and demolition debris from remodels or contractor work; concrete, dirt, and rocks; and dead animals. Hazardous waste can be taken free to the Salt Lake Valley Landfill household hazardous waste facility. Electronics are accepted at designated e-waste events or certified recyclers. In addition to on-call pickups, the District hosts an Area Cleanup program twice yearly that delivers large dumpsters to participating neighborhoods for a week of community cleanup. Registration for Area Cleanup opens in early spring and early fall via the District website.
