Hemet residential customers receive two free bulky-item pickups per calendar year through franchise hauler CR&R. Each pickup covers a combination of loose large items up to about three cubic yards, OR two individual large items. Tires are limited to four per request, and Freon removal carries a fee.
The City's franchised hauler provides bulky-item (large item) collection as part of residential service. According to the City's collection details, residential customers receive "two (2) bulky item pick-ups free of charge per calendar year," each consisting of "a combination of loose large items not to exceed the equivalent of three (3) cubic yards OR two (2) individual large items." Appliances containing Freon (such as refrigerators and air conditioners) can be collected, but Freon removal carries a fee. Automobile tires are limited to four per request. Bulky pickups must be scheduled in advance — residents contact CR&R Customer Care (800-755-8112 or 951-943-1991) to arrange a pickup; items should be set out as instructed for the appointment, not simply abandoned at the curb (illegal dumping and abandonment of waste are prohibited under Chapter 62). The franchise agreement also allows temporary bin rentals for larger cleanouts. Note that bulky items left out without scheduling, or beyond the allowed quantities, may not be collected and can become a Code Compliance issue if they accumulate as blight. These bulky-item benefits apply to CR&R-served addresses; 5-digit County-jurisdiction addresses served by Waste Management should confirm their separate program.
Setting out bulky items without scheduling a pickup, or in excess of program limits, may result in items being left and can trigger Code Compliance action if the material accumulates. Illegal dumping is separately prohibited under HMC Chapter 62.
