Henry County, GA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Henry County Code of Ordinances Sec. 3-5-108(e) classifies used, inoperative, worn-out household appliances (refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, dryers), discarded furniture, and tires as private special waste that the county's licensed hauler must collect at least weekly, with an additional charge permitted if the licensee sets one, and disposal must comply with current state and federal regulations. Yard trimmings get their own rule under Sec. 3-5-108(h): grass clippings, leaves, and similar debris go in suitable containers for pickup at least once a week, and limbs and yard trimmings cannot go to a landfill at all, they must go to a facility that recycles them as mulch or compost.

Limbs have to be bundled at no more than 50 pounds, 30 inches in diameter, and 36 inches in length; that yard-trimmings paragraph took effect September 1, 1996 per the ordinance text. Section 3-5-108(i) covers other specially handled waste, requiring it be placed near the dwelling where the licensee can easily retrieve it, or set at curbside ahead of an agreed pickup date. None of this bulk-waste scheme reaches self-hauling: Sec. 3-5-107 lets an owner skip the licensed hauler entirely by self-hauling solid waste directly to a state-approved landfill, so long as they can produce receipts or canceled checks proving proper disposal if county officials ask. These provisions apply only in unincorporated Henry County; the cities of McDonough, Stockbridge, Hampton, and Locust Grove contract their own bulk-item programs separately.
