Spotsylvania County, VA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Chapter 19 of the County Code gives the board of supervisors authority, under Sec. 19-4, to designate whether Solid Waste collection is handled by County personnel or by Commercial Collectors holding a permit, choosing whichever method is most feasible for regular, sanitary and economical service to County Residents. For whichever collector actually runs a route, Sec. and sunset, and only in a manner that does not adversely affect public health and welfare. Commercial Collectors operate under a permit from Division 2 of Article II: Sec.

19-51 makes operating without a current permit unlawful, Sec. 19-52 requires an application to the Director listing the service area, vehicle count and vehicle specifications, and Sec. 19-54 sets the fee by vehicle load capacity, fifty dollars for vehicles of one ton or less, one hundred dollars for one to two tons, and one hundred fifty dollars for vehicles over two tons (half price if applied for after June 30). Permits run through December 31 and are renewed between December 1 and 31 (Sec. 19-56); the Director may revoke a permit if violations are not corrected within thirty days of notice (Sec.

19-57). The Director, who is the County's Assistant County Administrator for Community Operations, administers and enforces this chapter and periodically inspects County facilities, Convenience Centers, Landfills and Green Boxes (Sec. 19-3). A County Resident who wants to self-haul instead of using a Commercial Collector must obtain a residential refuse decal from the County Treasurer's office and display it at the bottom of the windshield next to the Virginia inspection sticker, no more than one-quarter inch from its edge (Sec. 19-11).
