Dougherty County, GA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Unincorporated Dougherty County does not run its own curbside trucks; household garbage and yard trimmings are picked up by privately licensed collectors under contract with each home owner, who must provide garbage service at least twice weekly (Sec. 2-14-9). The county's own published holiday schedule instead governs the Gaissert Road landfill, the public disposal site set out in Sec. 2-14-20 through 2-14-31. Sec. m. m. Sunday, then closes the gate outright on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

A resident or contractor who still needs to dispose of waste on one of those six dates cannot simply show up; the ordinance requires special arrangements with the county director of public works made at least 72 hours in advance. Waste that is delivered is placed only where the attendant on duty designates, per subsection (b) of the same section. Home owners and occupiers hauling their own garbage from their residences pay no tipping fee under Sec. 2-14-29(c), while commercial haulers and contractors pay per-ton or per-vehicle charges posted at the site.

Because the holiday closures apply to the landfill rather than to a curbside route, the practical effect for most unincorporated residents is that their private collector's own truck schedule, not a county calendar, determines whether a holiday shifts pickup day; the county's rule only controls whether that collector, or a self-hauling resident, can reach the disposal site itself on the holiday.
