Glendale, CA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Glendale does not write a holiday calendar into its municipal code. Section 8.44.040(C) says only that when official holidays interrupt the normal seven day collection cycle, collection may be postponed until the next working day, and Section 8.44.130 gives the director of public works authority to make rules for the collection of refuse, recyclable material, and organics. The dated rule lives in the City's published 2026 Federal Holidays Holiday Collection Schedule, which the excerpt above quotes.

The schedule lists Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, and Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, as Regular Collection Services. Nothing moves on either date. The schedule has no row for the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27. The City's Collection Services page names Christmas Day and New Year's Day as the exceptions to the regular collection schedule, and that statement is the only guidance on that Friday.

Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, is marked with two asterisks, and the footnote defines them as No Collection Services. The entry reads Friday Collection Day Will Be Serviced on Saturday. New Year's Day, Friday, January 1, 2027, carries the same mark and the same entry: Friday Collection Day Will Be Serviced on Saturday. The document prints no other make-up rule for those two holidays, and it does not print a calendar date for either Saturday. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve do not appear in the schedule.

The earlier 2026 entry shows the pattern when a holiday lands midweek: for New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1, 2026, the Thursday collection day is serviced on Friday and the Friday collection day on Saturday. MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day (Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4), and Labor Day are all listed as Regular Collection Services.

The schedule is headed Single-Family Households (1-4 Units) Only. Its footnote tells Multi-Family and Commercial Properties to contact their property manager or owner. The Collection Services page explains the split: the City of Glendale provides collection services for residential homes (and 2-4 unit properties), while franchise haulers serve apartments and condos (5+ units and businesses). The schedule speaks of collection services and collection day in general and does not separate trash, recycling, or organics.
