Tuscaloosa, AL Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Sec. 16-95(c), added along with the rest of the current collection-timing rule by Ordinance No. 9487 in March 2024, is the only code provision addressing how a holiday affects the weekly garbage and trash routes described in Sec. 16-92(b) and Sec. 16-97(a). Rather than shifting every stop on the route to a different day that same week, the section simply cancels service outright for any account whose scheduled pickup falls on a legal holiday for the municipality, and collection then resumes on the next business day, effectively pushing that week's pickup back by however many holiday and weekend days intervene.

The code does not spell out a specific list of observed holidays in this section, leaving that to the city's regular holiday calendar and the environmental services department's routing decisions. The same subsection sits next to a second, separate excuse for missed service: Sec. 16-95(d) allows the department to delay routine garbage and trash collection for emergencies such as severe inclement weather, independent of any holiday. under Sec. 16-95(a) and cannot sit there more than 24 hours once serviced under Sec. 16-95(b), a holiday delay effectively extends how long a resident's cart may remain out past the normal 24-hour window without the resident being in violation, since no collection actually occurred on the missed day.
