Virginia Beach, VA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Sec. 31-30 of the Virginia Beach City Code, titled Holiday collection schedule, is one sentence: "Refuse collection service shall be provided by the city on official holidays as designated by the director of public works." Sec. 31-30 itself names no holidays, no dates and no make-up day, so the dated detail comes from the table the Public Works Waste Management group posts on pw.virginiabeach.gov. It runs from Memorial Day, May 25, 2026, to New Year’s Day Observed, Jan. 1, 2027, under these column headings: City Holiday, Observed Date, Admin Office Schedule, Collection Schedule, and Landfill & West Neck Recycling Center.

Thanksgiving week is covered row by row. Day Before Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, 2026, reads Unchanged for collection, with the admin office closing at noon and the Landfill and West Neck Recycling Center closing at 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026, lists "Nov. 28, Thursday Routes" in the Collection Schedule column, with the admin office and both facilities closed. Day After Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, 2026, reads Unchanged for collection, and the facilities are "Closed Nov. 27 Open Nov. 28".

Christmas follows the same pattern. Christmas Eve Observed, Dec. 24, 2026, reads Unchanged for collection, with the admin office and facilities closed. Christmas Day Observed, Dec. 25, 2026, lists "Dec. 26, Friday Routes" for collection, and the facilities are "Closed Dec 25 Open Dec. 26". New Year’s Day Observed, Jan. 1, 2027, lists "Jan. 2, Friday Routes" and is the last row, so the page lists no holiday after it.

Election Day, Nov. 3, 2026, and Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2026, both read Unchanged for collection. Columbus Day & Yorktown Victory Day, Oct. 12, 2026, shows NA in the Collection Schedule column, and the page does not say what NA means.

The page does not name a service area or customer class. It frames the table as covering curbside services, which the Curbside Services page defines as weekly trash, every other week recycling, weekly yard debris, bulky pick-up and yard debris container rentals. The table has one Collection Schedule column and does not split trash from recycling or yard debris.
