Weekly curbside trash and single-stream recycling via DSWS. Set out by 6 AM, no earlier than 5 PM prior day. Limit 5 containers per collection.
Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services (DSWS) under the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provides curbside trash and recycling collection for single-family homes and townhouses in the unincorporated areas of the county. Trash is collected once per week and recycling once per week on separate days. Collection begins at 6 AM, so materials must be placed at the curb before 6 AM on your collection day but no earlier than 5 PM the day before. Each household may set out up to 5 containers of trash per collection (32-gallon cans or bags under 60 pounds). Recycling is single-stream: paper, cardboard, glass, metal cans, and plastics 1-7 go in the blue bin together. Yard trim is collected separately on a weekly or biweekly schedule depending on the season. Incorporated municipalities (Rockville, Gaithersburg, Takoma Park, etc.) operate their own collection programs. The county charges a solid waste fee on the annual property tax bill rather than per-bag or per-can fees.
Improperly sorted recycling may not be collected. Excessive trash beyond 5 containers will not be picked up without a special arrangement. Contaminated recycling bins receive an educational tag and may be left uncollected.
