The Gaithersburg Department of Public Works (DPW) manages residential solid waste services for single-family homes within city limits. The city contracts with a licensed hauler for weekly curbside trash collection. Each household receives a designated pickup day. Trash must be placed in approved containers with secure lids, not exceeding 32 gallons or 60 pounds per container. Plastic bags alone are not accepted and must be placed inside a container. Containers must be placed at the curb or alley collection point by 6 AM on the designated day and retrieved by midnight the same day. Bulk items and appliances require a separate pickup appointment scheduled through DPW.
