Rockville, MD Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

The City of Rockville Department of Public Works (DPW) provides weekly curbside trash and recycling collection for all single-family homes and townhouses within city limits. Multifamily properties with more than four units typically arrange private hauling. Collection days are assigned by neighborhood zone and residents can look up their schedule on the city website or by calling DPW at 240-314-8570. Trash must be placed in city-issued or approved containers with lids. Recyclables go in the blue recycling bin provided by the city. All bins must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on collection day and retrieved by midnight the same day. During weeks with city-observed holidays, collection may shift to the following day. Yard waste including leaves, grass clippings, and small branches is collected separately and must be placed in paper yard waste bags or bundled with twine. Yard waste collection runs from March through mid-December on a weekly or biweekly schedule depending on the season. The city does not collect yard waste from January through February. Excess trash beyond what fits in the standard container may require a special pickup request. Rockville residents also have access to the Montgomery County Transfer Station for self-hauling.
