Cambridge Department of Public Works collects residential trash once per week on a zone-based schedule. Carts must be placed curbside by 6 AM on collection day and removed by the following morning.
The Cambridge Department of Public Works (DPW) provides weekly curbside trash collection to residential buildings with six or fewer units. Each household receives a city-issued cart, and materials placed in any other container will not be collected. Collection days are assigned by neighborhood zone and published on the DPW Recycle and Trash Map. Carts must be set out at the curb no earlier than 5 PM the night before and by 6 AM on the collection day, and must be removed from public space by the end of the collection day. Overflow bags require the purchase of a Cambridge yellow overflow sticker available at DPW and participating retailers. Commercial properties and buildings with seven or more units must contract with a private hauler.
