Chapel Hill collects household trash and yard waste weekly, starting at 6 a.m. Find your day on the town's Residential Trash Collection Map; recycling is handled separately by Orange County, and bulky pickup is a paid service.
The Town of Chapel Hill collects household trash and yard waste each week, with trucks starting at 6 a.m., so have bins out by then. Find your collection day on the town's Residential Trash Collection Map, or call Public Works at 919-969-5100. Curbside recycling is provided by Orange County, not the town, on its own schedule. Solid-waste service is suspended on holidays such as MLK Day; during the December holidays, trash is unaffected December 24-26, but yard trimmings are not collected December 25-26. Bulky-item pickup is a pre-paid service: $15 for up to three items plus $5 per additional item, usually collected within three to five business days.
Bins must be at the curb by 6 a.m. on your collection day. See City Code Chapter 8 for container and refuse requirements; bulky pickups require prepayment before service.
