Republic Services (formerly Allied Waste) is Hawthorne's exclusive franchised residential and commercial hauler. Automated cart service uses a brown trash cart in 32, 64, or 96 gallons. Collection begins at 6 a.m., and holiday weeks delay service one day.
Solid-waste collection in Hawthorne is provided under an exclusive franchise, not by the city directly and not by Los Angeles County. The city's own FAQ identifies Allied Waste Service, a subsidiary of Republic Services, Inc., as the exclusive residential and commercial hauler for the City of Hawthorne; the service now operates under the Republic Services name. Residential automated collection uses a brown cart for trash, with a standard 64-gallon size and optional smaller 32-gallon or larger 96-gallon carts, each at a different monthly rate. Trash collection starts at 6:00 a.m. on the assigned day. The city observes six holidays for collection purposes (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas); when one falls on a weekday, service that week is delayed one day, while a weekend holiday does not change the schedule. Cracked or broken carts are replaced free by calling the hauler. Construction and demolition debris is not part of regular cart service and requires a separate bin (10, 20, or 40 cubic yard). Republic Services customer service is (888) 742-5234 (the city FAQ also lists 888-742-5434). Residents should confirm their exact collection day directly with Republic Services.
Service is mandatory through the franchised hauler; uncollected accumulations or illegal dumping are enforced as nuisances by Hawthorne Code Enforcement at (310) 349-2945. Service issues are handled by Republic Services customer service.
