Spokane Solid Waste Collection provides weekly garbage and every-other-week recycling pickup to residential customers. Carts must be placed curbside by 6 AM on collection day and removed within 24 hours under SMC 13.02.
The City of Spokane operates its own municipal solid waste utility serving approximately 70,000 residential accounts. Service includes a weekly gray garbage cart, alternating-week blue recycling cart, and seasonal green yard debris cart. Cart sizes include 20, 32, 64, and 96 gallon options with tiered monthly rates. Per SMC 13.02.0506, carts must be set out with lids closed and wheels toward the house no earlier than 6 PM the evening before and no later than 6 AM on collection day. Carts must be removed from the right-of-way by midnight of the collection day. Overfilled carts with lids propped open more than 6 inches will not be emptied. Contaminated recycling loads may be charged as garbage. Holiday collection slides one day later when holidays fall Monday through Friday. Missed pickups must be reported within 48 hours.
Late removal of carts: warning first, $25 fine subsequent. Contaminated recycling: up to $50 contamination fee. Illegal dumping in city carts: $250.
