DeSoto, TX Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

DeSoto offers single-stream residential recycling through Waste Management. Residents receive a dedicated recycling cart collected on the same day as regular trash or on an alternating schedule depending on the service plan. Acceptable recyclables include paper (newspapers, magazines, office paper, mail, clean cardboard flattened), plastics (bottles and jugs marked #1 and #2, often #3-#7 accepted depending on current market conditions), metal cans (aluminum and steel/tin food and beverage cans, empty and rinsed), and glass bottles and jars (empty and rinsed, labels okay). Contamination — pizza boxes heavily soiled with grease, plastic bags, food waste, diapers, batteries, tanglers like hoses or wire, and textiles — reduces recyclability of the entire load and should be excluded. Plastic bags are recyclable only at grocery store drop-off locations, not curbside. Participation in recycling is voluntary for residents under current DeSoto rules, but strongly encouraged to reduce landfill tonnage and support state and regional waste reduction goals. Commercial recycling is arranged privately by businesses.
