DeSoto, TX Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

DeSoto provides bulk waste collection for items too large to fit in the regular trash cart — furniture, mattresses, appliances, carpet, and other household goods. Bulk pickup is typically offered on a monthly or scheduled basis through Waste Management, with residents required to follow set-out rules (curbside, not blocking sidewalks, within posted size and volume limits per pickup). Appliances containing refrigerants (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners) require the refrigerant to be removed by a certified technician with a removal tag affixed before pickup, per federal EPA rules. Brush and yard waste are handled separately — branches must be cut to manageable lengths (typically 4 feet or less) and bundled with twine, with leaves and grass clippings in paper yard bags or the recycling/yard cart depending on program. Construction debris, hazardous waste, tires, and electronics are NOT accepted in bulk pickup and must go to appropriate drop-off programs such as the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center or designated e-waste recyclers. Illegal dumping is prosecuted under state law.
