Grays Harbor County, WA Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Section 8.32.030(A) requires every WUTC-certificated collection company to offer every-other-week, single-stream curbside recycling, excluding glass, to all single-family residences that subscribe to curbside garbage service in unincorporated Grays Harbor County, and to run recycling pickup on the same day as garbage collection unless the county approves an alternative schedule for roads that can't support the truck system. Any single-family home already receiving curbside garbage service is automatically signed up and billed for recycling; a household that doesn't participate, meaning it never sets its cart out even once every two months, is charged a two-dollar-per-month non-participation surcharge. Homes that don't get curbside garbage pickup must contact the hauler directly if they want curbside recycling.

Subsection (B) requires the hauler to supply each subscribed household one wheeled cart of about ninety-six gallons, built from durable, partly recycled plastic, marked with instructions and the hauler's name and phone number. The hauler replaces a cart worn out through normal use or damaged by its own negligence at no charge, but a customer pays to replace a cart the customer damaged or lost. Subsection (C) requires haulers to offer alternatives, such as a drive-in tariff rate or a different container, for households with inaccessible driveways, steep or winding access, no room to store a cart near the road, or a resident with a physical limitation and no able-bodied person in the home to set it out. Nothing in the section forces a resident to participate or stops them from hauling recyclables to a drop-off site instead.
