Recycling in Madison is a free, voluntary program run by RANA (a division of the Solid Waste Disposal Authority). Single-family homes get a blue 95-gallon cart collected monthly; carts must be out by 7:00 a.m.
The Recycling Alliance of North Alabama (RANA), a division of the Solid Waste Disposal Authority, runs Madison's curbside recycling. It is a complimentary service offered to Madison single-family residences in both the Madison County and Limestone County portions of the city; apartments and commercial properties are not currently serviced. Participants receive a blue 95-gallon cart, and carts are picked up monthly on a route-based calendar. Carts must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on pickup day. Accepted materials include newspapers, flattened cardboard, magazines, empty aluminum and steel cans, and rinsed plastic bottles #1-#2 with lids removed. Glass, plastic bags, and yogurt tubs are not accepted. Residents register by requesting a blue cart from SWDA/RANA.
Recycling is voluntary, so there is no fine for not participating. Contaminated carts or non-accepted materials (glass, bags) may be left uncollected.
