Orlando operates a single-stream recycling program. Residents place all recyclable materials in the blue city-issued cart without sorting. Accepted materials include paper, cardboard, glass bottles, metal cans, and plastics #1-5 and #7. Contaminated recycling (food waste, plastic bags) may result in the cart not being collected.
Orlando's single-stream recycling program accepts paper (newspapers, magazines, office paper), cardboard (flattened), glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, and plastics #1-5 and #7 in one cart. Materials must be clean, empty, and dry. Plastic bags, Styrofoam, food waste, and hazardous materials are not accepted and contaminate the recycling stream. Contaminated carts may receive a tag explaining the issue and may not be collected until corrected. The recycling program is mandatory for residential properties receiving city solid waste service.
Contaminated recycling: educational tag, cart may be skipped. Repeated contamination: recycling cart may be removed. Failure to participate: no direct penalty but strongly encouraged.
