Bonneville County, ID Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

07 gives the county the authority to authorize recycling of material at any official solid waste disposal site, or any other approved site, according to standards and conditions the Board of Commissioners sets. That same section keeps dangerous, hazardous or unauthorized waste material in the ownership of whoever deposited it until it is disposed of in compliance with the ordinance. 08(A) separately prohibits any person from salvaging or attempting to salvage materials once they are delivered to or deposited at an official site, and bars interfering with residents, haulers or county employees handling deposited material.

08(B) lets the county issue a permit to qualified private contractors to sort and remove specific material at a gated site, but only if the contractor agrees to indemnify the county against losses, stay 100 feet from operating equipment, avoid interfering with people depositing waste, salvage only what the permit specifies, avoid handling hazardous material, and immediately report any hazardous material found. The Solid Waste Management Ordinance, adopted by Ordinance 255-23 on August 16, 2023, replaced the county's older refuse rules for its two disposal sites, the County Transfer Station on Hemert Drive and the County Landfill at Peterson Hill.
