Calvert County, MD Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 119-4 of the Solid Waste chapter treats bundled yard debris and paper goods differently from garbage: household refuse such as books, magazines, boxes or newspapers offered for public collection need not go in an approved container at all, so long as it is securely tied in bundles or boxed in a disposable container no larger than 24 inches by 24 inches by 36 inches. Bundles of tree limbs, brush, yard trimmings or other household rubbish get their own limit, capped at 48 inches long and 18 inches in diameter.

Public collection means pickup by a commercial hauler under § 119-2's definitions; Calvert County itself does not run a curbside crew, so yard debris goes out for whichever permitted hauler serves the property, under the permit system in Article IV. Rubbish itself is defined broadly enough to cover the material this bundling rule addresses, listing tree branches and yard trimmings among nonputrescible combustibles alongside paper, cartons and wood furniture (§ 119-2). Chapter 119 applies countywide by its own terms (§ 119-1), reaching the unincorporated county as well as Chesapeake Beach and North Beach, and the Health Officer is charged with enforcement (§ 119-23).

A person who has filed a compliance plan the Health Officer has approved, and is following it, is not treated as violating this bundling rule while that plan remains in effect (§ 119-22).
