405(g) sets the physical specifications for green waste placed at the curb: branches and trimmings must be cut into pieces not exceeding four feet in length and four inches in diameter before being placed adjacent to a street or right-of-way, a limit written specifically to minimize interference with the public right-of-way. Residents have two compliant options: place the material in a container designated for green waste collection, or tie it securely into bundles that do not exceed 80 pounds. Either way, the green waste cannot be contaminated with other forms of solid waste or with hazardous substances, or the load can be rejected.
