Hanford, CA Tree Protection: Parkway Planting (2026)

Hanford Municipal Code § 12.12.110 ties street tree species to park strip width in the City of Hanford, Kings County. In park strips narrower than five feet, only trees selected from the city's authorized street tree list may be planted; strips five feet or wider may likewise only use trees allowed on that list. A 'park strip' is defined in § 12.12.020 as the right-of-way area between curb and sidewalk (or property line) reserved for street trees, shrubs, hedges and other plants: it can extend into a private yard beyond the sidewalk in some areas. The parks and recreation director administers the authorized tree list.
