Metropolitan Utilities District operates a 24-hour leak hotline for street and main breaks; property owners are responsible for service-line leaks past the curb stop and may receive billing adjustments for unseen interior leaks.
MUD owns water mains and the curb stop; property owners own service lines from the curb stop into the home. Visible street leaks should be reported to MUD's emergency line for crew dispatch. Inside the property, sustained high consumption triggers a courtesy alert on monthly bills. Customers who repair an unseen leak (slab, irrigation, toilet flapper) and document it may request a one-time partial billing adjustment. Failure to repair known leaks that flow into the public way can lead to stormwater violations under Chapter 31.
Unrepaired private leaks flowing onto streets may draw stormwater fines of $100-$500. Tampering with the water meter is a Class III misdemeanor under MUD tariff.
