Tacoma produces Class A reclaimed water at the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant for industrial process use, dust control, and irrigation, governed by Washington Department of Ecology rules.
Tacoma Environmental Services operates the Central Treatment Plant on the Tideflats and the North End plant. The Central plant produces Washington Class A reclaimed water, the highest quality grade, suitable for unrestricted public access irrigation, industrial cooling, and dust control on construction sites. Use is regulated under WAC 173-219 and a state reclaimed water permit. The City offers reclaimed water to qualifying industrial customers in the Tideflats area. Cross connection with potable lines is strictly prohibited and signage is required at every reclaimed water hose bib and station.
Cross connections with potable plumbing are serious violations carrying immediate disconnection and fines under WAC 246-290 cross-connection rules.
