Oxnard permits ADUs in all residential and mixed-use zones following California ADU law. Detached ADUs may be up to 1,200 sq ft. Attached ADUs are limited to 50% of the primary dwelling or 1,200 sq ft, whichever is less.
Oxnard's ADU regulations conform to California Government Code §65852.2. Both attached and detached ADUs are allowed, as well as Junior ADUs (JADUs) up to 500 sq ft created within the existing dwelling. Detached ADUs have a general height limit of 16 feet, with exceptions up to 25 feet near transit or in multifamily zones. No additional parking is required for ADUs within half a mile of public transit. ADUs cannot be sold separately from the primary residence but may be rented.
