Full Breakdown

Section 16.20.390 sets the citywide cap on accessory building floor area for residential and agricultural zone districts: lots get a 1,000-square-foot aggregate accessory building allowance, up to a maximum aggregate accessory building area of 7.5 percent of net lot area. The A-2 General Agricultural zone is exempt, accessory building size there is unlimited. Height is capped separately under Section 16.20.410 at 35 feet and 2.5 stories, dropping to 20 feet within 30 feet of a side or rear property line. Guest houses and accessory dwelling units are excluded from the accessory-building area calculation and permitted in addition to it.

Violations & Fines

Building a shed, workshop, or other accessory structure beyond the 1,000-square-foot/7.5%-of-lot cap, or taller than the limits in Section 16.20.410, is a zoning code violation subject to city enforcement.
