Pompano Beach follows state law on dog breed regulation. FL SB 942, effective October 1, 2023, prohibits local governments and public housing authorities from adopting breed-specific ordinances. Dangerous dog classification under FL Statute 767.11-767.14 is based on behavior, not breed. Chapter 90 of the Pompano Beach Code of Ordinances governs animals. All dogs must be under the direct physical control of their owner by means of a leash when in public. Dogs that are outdoors must be under owner control. Broward County Animal Care Division enforces animal laws countywide. Nuisance dog provisions under Section 90.36 address outdoor confinement of dogs creating noise disturbances.
Breed-specific bans are prohibited by state law. Owners of dangerous dogs must comply with FL Β§767 registration and containment requirements.
