Full Breakdown
Section 10-96 covers cats alongside dogs and ferrets: vaccination is due by four months and must be kept current per veterinary or Compendium of Animal Rabies guidance. A cat over four months without a collar and current tag is unlawful to keep or harbor. Exceptions exist for cats staying only on the owner's property (tag must still be available on demand), show cats, animals housed at licensed kennels or clinics, and visiting cats staying under 14 days.
Violations & Fines
Keeping or harboring a cat over four months old without a collar bearing a valid rabies tag is unlawful; a loose, untagged cat can be impounded by CCAS under section 10-66, and general Code violations carry up to a $1,000 fine and/or 60 days in jail.
