Pearland, TX Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

Ordinance No. 528-11, adopted November 10, 2025, amended Chapter 6 (Animals), deleting the "Barnyard animal" definition and repealing former Sections 6-5 through 6-10. Those sections had required a half-acre minimum lot, a 150-foot coop setback from neighboring homes, a density cap of three animal units per half-acre (five chickens equaled one unit), and no more than one rooster per acre. Pearland cited Texas "Right to Farm" statutes barring cities from prohibiting generally accepted agricultural practices, including raising poultry. Only ratites remain banned (Sec. 6-5). Hens still may not run at large, and feces-storage and nuisance standards apply. Pearland Police Animal Services enforces; violations are Class C misdemeanors.
