Sanger, CA Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

The Sanger Municipal Code addresses the keeping of animals in residential areas with provisions that reflect the city's agricultural character. Chickens (hens) are generally permitted on residential properties for personal egg production. Roosters may be restricted or prohibited in higher-density residential zones due to noise concerns but are more commonly allowed on larger lots and in agricultural-residential transition areas on the city's outskirts. The number of chickens permitted may be tied to lot size. Coops and enclosures must be maintained in a sanitary condition and set back from property lines and neighboring residences.
