Bishop, CA Animal Ordinances: Dog Leash Laws (2026)

Bishop Municipal Code 6.04.180 says no owner of any animal except the domestic cat may let it run at large (off the owner's premises) unless under restraint by leash, with a maximum leash length of six feet, nor trespass on public or private property, nor habitually make loud noise constituting a public nuisance. Under 6.04.020 every dog over four months must be licensed, which requires current rabies immunization. California Health and Safety Code 121690 separately requires rabies vaccination once the dog reaches three months and confinement or physical restraint of dogs under four months. Animal control is handled through the Inyo County health officer and animal control officer.
