Rancho Cucamonga requires dogs to be leashed in all public areas under Title 6. Off-leash activity is only allowed at designated dog parks like Etiwanda Creek Park.
Under Title 6 of the Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Code and San Bernardino County animal control ordinances that apply through contract, dogs must be under the direct physical control of the owner via a leash no longer than 6 feet when on any public property, sidewalk, trail, or park, except within a designated off-leash area. The Etiwanda Creek Community Park dog park and similar posted off-leash areas are the only locations where dogs may legally run free. Pacific Electric Trail and Chaffey-Garcia Trail, the Heritage Park equestrian facilities, and all city parks otherwise require leashes. Dog owners must also carry waste bags and pick up after their pet. Violations can result in citations starting around $100 for first offenses and increasing for repeat violations. If a dog is running loose, animal control impounds it and charges reclaim fees plus vaccination and licensing fees. Rancho Cucamonga license registration is handled through Inland Valley Humane Society.
