Manteca Municipal Code Chapter 6.08 prohibits ownership of vicious animals. California state law (CA Fish & Game Code) bans many exotic animals statewide. Most non-domesticated wild animals β including big cats, venomous reptiles, primates, and bears β are prohibited.
CA Fish & Game Code Β§2116 and related sections prohibit the importation, transportation, or possession of most wild animals in California. Animals banned statewide include but are not limited to: big cats, bears, alligators, venomous reptiles, wolves, and most primates. Local ordinances (MMC Chapter 6.08) add additional restrictions on vicious animals of any type. Some animals (ferrets, hedgehogs) are also banned under CA DFG regulations. Permits from CDFW may be available for certain educational or research uses. Contact San Joaquin County Animal Control or CDFW for guidance on specific species.
Possession of banned exotic species: criminal charges under CA Fish & Game Code; fines and animal seizure.
