Under OMC Section 6.04.060, it is unlawful to keep or maintain any wild animal within the City of Orange except as specifically enumerated. Prohibited animals include any species listed as restricted in California Code of Regulations Title 14, Section 671, any animal designated by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as invasive, any animal requiring a permit from OC Animal Care under OCCO Section 4-1-94, all venomous or poisonous reptiles and amphibians, and snakes exceeding six feet in length. Exemptions may apply to properly licensed educational or zoological facilities.
Keeping a prohibited exotic animal is unlawful and constitutes a public nuisance under OMC Chapter 6.04. Violations may result in animal confiscation, fines, and abatement proceedings under OMC Chapter 1.08.
