Full Breakdown
Clark County Code § 10.08.070(b) makes it unlawful to own or harbor a dog or cat older than four months unless it has been implanted with a microchip and the owner keeps contact information current with a microchip registry. Dealers and operators offering an animal for sale are treated as owners for this purpose. A veterinarian can exempt an animal that cannot safely be chipped, but that pet must then wear an identification tag instead. New residents get a thirty-day grace period, and animals visiting the county temporarily for a show are exempt. Clark County Animal Protection Services enforces the requirement.
Violations & Fines
Violations are enforced by CCAPS as civil administrative citations under Clark County Code § 1.14.010: up to $100 for a first offense, $250 for a second within a year, and $500 for each additional violation.
