North Las Vegas, NV Animal Ordinances: Microchipping (2026)

North Las Vegas has no blanket microchip mandate for pet ownership, but the City ties microchipping to specific transactions. 080(A)(5), before Animal Protection Services releases an impounded dog, cat, potbellied pig, ferret, or rabbit to its owner, the animal must already be microchipped and the owner must pay for the implant: on top of proving the animal is licensed, vaccinated against rabies, spayed or neutered if required, and not suspected of carrying rabies. 085 extends the same requirement to shelter adoptions: any animal adopted from the City shelter must be microchipped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, licensed, and permitted before the adopter takes it home, with the adopter covering the microchipping cost in addition to the adoption fee.

070: the owner must have the animal implanted with a City-approved microchip by a licensed veterinarian and register the chip number in a national database, reporting that number to an animal protection officer, as a condition of keeping a declared-dangerous animal. 14 trap-neuter-return program may be microchipped, but it is optional there, unlike the mandatory chip for impound releases, adoptions, and dangerous-animal permits.
