Wyoming, MI Animal Ordinances: Pet Groomer Rules (2026)

Wyoming, Michigan's Zoning Ordinance regulates pet groomers and similar animal-care businesses through two overlapping standards. First, Table 90-600 (Sec. 90-600(7), Required Minimum Number of Parking Spaces by Use) lists "Animal grooming, training and boarding" and sets its parking ratio at one space for every 300 square feet of gross floor area, the same table that governs every other commercial use in the city. Second, if the business meets the code's definition of a kennel, which Sec. 90-211 defines as "any lot or premises on which three or more dogs, cats, or other domestic animals age four months or older are kept, either permanently or temporarily, either for sale, breeding, hobby, sporting activity, protection or pets," it is treated as a special land use confined to the I-2 industrial district.

Sec. " A special use approval from the Planning Commission is required before a kennel-type use can open, following the standards and public-hearing process in Sec. 90-507. A groomer that only grooms animals brought in and out the same day, without boarding, breeding or training three or more animals overnight, does not meet the Sec. 90-211 kennel definition and can locate in any district where personal or animal services are permitted, subject only to the Table 90-600 parking ratio and standard site plan/sketch plan review under Sec. 90-502.
