Lorain County sets no countywide pet-number limit; cities do. The City of Lorain caps most single households at five domestic animals, excluding caged small pets like hamsters. Check your own city or township for its limit.
There is no county ordinance limiting the number of pets in Lorain County; limits are set by each municipality. The City of Lorain's codified ordinances (505.22) permit not more than five domestic animals per single-family dwelling or per separate suite in a multi-unit building, excepting caged small pets such as puppies, kittens, hamsters, gerbils, or aquarium animals. Other Lorain County cities and townships set their own numbers, and kennels or larger operations may need a kennel license. All dogs three months or older must be licensed annually through the Lorain County Auditor by January 31, regardless of how many you own.
Exceeding a city pet limit is a minor misdemeanor nuisance; unlicensed dogs draw a late penalty and possible fine from the Dog Warden.
