Mission, TX Animal Ordinances: Pet Limits (2026)

The Code of Ordinances sets no direct numeric cap on cats or on dogs kept simply as household pets. Instead, Sec. 14-77(b) defines a "dog kennel" as any property where more than four adult dogs (over six months old) are maintained, and Sec. 14-77(a) bars locating a dog kennel within 200 feet of any residence, measured from the kennel's fence line or property line. Because most residential lots in Mission can't clear that 200-foot buffer from neighboring homes, keeping a fifth adult dog effectively triggers kennel status and puts the property out of compliance unless the setback is met. No comparable cat threshold exists in the Code.
