Mosinee, WI Animal Ordinances: Pet Limits (2026)

Section 10-3(e)(1) of the Mosinee Code of Ordinances limits any residential unit, or any group of persons making up one residential unit, to no more than two dogs, cats, or a combination of the two once they pass five months of age; a household that wants more must first obtain a kennel license for the premises rather than simply keeping additional animals. The five-month threshold lines up with section 10-76's dog-licensing rule, which requires any dog older than five months to be listed, licensed, and tagged with the city by July 1 of the license year.

Section 10-3(e)(2) adds a narrow visitor's allowance: an out-of-town guest may bring up to two more dogs or cats to stay at a residential unit, but only for up to seven consecutive days at a time, and a single address cannot use that visitor exception more than twice in a calendar year. The limit applies per residential unit rather than per person, so a household of several adults still tops out at two covered animals absent a kennel license. Because the section sits inside chapter 10's general "keeping of dogs, cats, fowl and other animals" article, a violation is enforced the same way as the chapter's other keeping restrictions, through the police department and the citywide forfeiture schedule in section 1-13.
