Jackson, NJ Animal Ordinances: Veterinary Clinic Zoning (2026)

Jackson Township allows a veterinary clinic, hospital or animal care facility only as a conditional use, so an operator must clear both the underlying zoning district's standards and every condition in Township Code § 244-132. Subsection A sets three separate setbacks for any building or area used for kennels, pens or runs: at least 100 feet from the front property line, 50 feet from the rear and side property lines, and 150 feet from any off-site dwelling, whichever combination applies to the specific parcel. Subsection B requires sufficient indoor space for every animal kept at the facility and flatly bars keeping animals outdoors between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., a nighttime containment rule aimed at noise and nuisance control in Jackson's residential neighborhoods.

Subsection C requires the applicant to submit detailed sanitary sewage and solid waste disposal plans to the Planning Board before approval, and Subsection D layers on affirmative noise control: soundproofing of all enclosed structures, noise baffles or dense screening around outdoor pens, kennels, cages and runs, and secondary buffer plantings between those enclosures and any exterior property-line buffer strip the Planning Board requires. Subsection E requires the facility to be licensed by and meet the standards of federal, state or county regulatory agencies, layering professional veterinary licensing on top of the Township's site conditions.

Subsection F restricts veterinary uses in residential zones specifically: there, the clinic, hospital or animal care facility must be accessory to a permitted detached single-family dwelling, meaning it cannot stand as a freestanding commercial veterinary practice in a residential zone.
