Albuquerque, NM Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

Albuquerque adopted the Uniform Administrative Code as its permitting framework, plus the 2021 New Mexico Commercial and Residential Building Codes, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical and related technical codes, as the city's Uniform Construction Codes. The Building Safety Division of the Planning Department administers those codes and has jurisdiction over construction, alteration, moving, demolition, repair, use and occupancy of buildings, structures and building service equipment. That jurisdiction is the city's building-permit gate, covering everything from new construction to remodels, additions and equipment replacement.
